Questions people ask

How much severance pay do I get in Ontario?+

If you worked 5 years or more and your employer's payroll is $2.5 million or more, 1 week of regular wages for each year of employment (partial years count), up to 26 weeks. This is on top of termination notice or pay.

How much notice must my employer give?+

1 week if you worked 3 months to under 1 year, 2 weeks for 1 to under 3 years, then 1 week per year up to 8 weeks for 8 years or more. The employer can pay you instead of giving notice.

Can I get more than the ESA minimum?+

Often yes. Unless your contract validly limits you to the ESA, common law "reasonable notice" can be much longer, depending on your age, role and years of service. Get legal advice before signing a release.
